The Stables Café
at Orleans House
The Stables Café sits within the grounds of the majestic Orleans House, on idyllic Twickenham Riverside.
Aside from the magnificence of it all, for 300 years this has been a place where people have come to relax away from the trials of working and city life. It was built in 1710 as the country retreat of a Scots politician, before later becoming the home of Louis Philippe, Duc d’Orleans and King of the French, during his exile from revolutionary France. In more recent times, it has undergone a multi-million pound restoration to create a wonderful public gallery and recreation space, both inside and out in the surrounding woodland.
The Stables Café is located in the courtyard beside the gallery and is popular with the good people of Twickenham as well as visitors discovering Orleans House for the first time. You can settle into the comfortable seating in one of the stables stalls, each decorated with a unique piece of art by local artist Jem Panufnik, or sit out in the sunshine in the courtyard. Enjoy a delicious bite to eat, a cup of Bellevue Tea and a cake from the Roots & Berries bakery or a chilled glass of rosé.
Private events
Orleans House has a number of event spaces for private hire for weddings, gatherings and corporate events. These include the Grade 1 listed Octagon Room and the Victorian Coach House as well as a contemporary meeting room above the Gallery. We’re delighted to provide the on-site catering from our wonderful Stables Café.
Orleans House really is a unique place that’s there for everyday life, and the most special of occasions.
